Being Yourself, Going With Your Flow – Upcoming Events 2017/18

When was the last time you were really happy, filled with joy, when time ceased to exist and you were fully present, when you experience a flow-state?

If you are like most people I wouldn’t be surprised if this has been awhile.  The question is why you are not experiencing such wonderful moments more often, live in your flow on a daily basis, letting it become your new normal.

If you are interested in exploring experiencing what it takes to unravel this potential, I am inviting you to a number of events during the next couple of months.  These “workshops” will take place in the mountains.  The first event will be November 11 and 12, 2017 at the Pitztal Glacier in Austria.  Another event will be held in Davos-Klosters (Switzerland) during the week of January 21-26, 2018 (running parallel to the Open Forum of the 2018 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum).

The events will be open to anyone interesting in exploring how you enter your flow state at will.  The “workshop” will be on skis or snowboard.  For this purpose you should be an intermediate or advanced skier or snowboarder.  A professional instructor and guide will accompany the workshop.  More detailed information will be posted in due time.  Alternatively, you can contact me directly (info (at) thomasjuli.com).

Today is a great day!

2016: what’s to BE

Yes, I do have a number of new year’s resolution.

colored_custom_year_text_11844Here is a list of topics I would like to write about:

  • Building a Happy Workplace
  • Forget HR: Why “HR” is detrimental to organizational health and business growth (and what we need to do instead)
  • The forgotten dimension of innovation
  • Who ought to be the real business enabler in an organization
  • 1+1+1 = x.  Measuring organizational performance
  • Shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world
  • Innovation: it’s all about people
  • Leadership in the Creative Economy
  • HIP Camp 2016 – Driving Performance, Inspiring Innovation
  • What we can learn from Social Businesses
  • Myopia of traditional economic theory

Conferences I will speak at or plan to attend are the following:

  • KAS meets WEF, Davos, Switzerland (Jan 20-24, 2016)
  • Corporate Social Responsibility Forum, Ludwigsburg, Germany (April 5-6, 2016)
  • Global Scrum Gathering, Orlando, Florida, USA (April 18-20, 2016)
  • PMI Global Congress EMEA, Barcelona, Spain (May 9-11, 2016)
  • PMI Global Congress North America, San Diego, CA, USA (Oct 2016)
  • Global Peter Drucker Forum, Vienna, Austria (Nov 2016)
  • HIP Camp 2016 – Driving Performance, Inspiring Innovation (location and date tbd)

It’s not all about work.

This is why I am looking forward to

  • Family time
  • Mindfulness. Being and motivate to be
  • Music: picking up my saxophone and clarinet again
  • Sports: skiing and snowboarding, taekwondo (3rd Dan?), running, hiking
  • the great outdoors

In other words, there are a lot of people, activities and things to look forward to in 2016.

I wish you all a Happy New Year!

Chairlift to Innovation: Building WOW Projects While Having Fun (Jan 27-29, 2014 in Davos-Klosters)

Interested in going beyond debating the hot topics of this year’s World Economic Forum? Why not share your ideas and turn them into concrete projects – and have fun at the same time!?

Then join the free Chairlift to Innovation and learn how to grow your ideas into projects for success. Let’s meet on the slopes and chairlifts of the magnificient resort of Davos-Klosters and share our ideas and turn them into concrete project proposals – and have fun at the same time. After all, what better location could there be where you can integrate good ideas, physical exercise and natural beauty!?

http://www.igluski.com/images/davos_i5245603.jpg?height=240&width=440DATES:

Monday January 27 – Wednesday January 29, 2014

COSTS:

None – except willingness to share ideas and desire to grow them into concrete projects

MEETING LOCATIONS:

  • Monday January 27, 2014, 10 AM, top of Gotschnabahn in Klosters (Parsenn).  PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE ON FACEBOOK
  • Tuesday January 28, 2014 & Wednesday January 29, 2014, 10 AM, top of Gotschnabahn in Klosters (Parsenn)
  • In case of a demand to meet in Davos at the base of the Jakobshorn instead, please call  or send me an email.  My local number is  +41 76 798 53 21; my email is tj@thomasjuli.com.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • 1 day = 1 idea or problem to work on.
  • 1 lift ride = 1 question / lift ride to discuss.
  • 1 day = 1 or more concrete project proposals.

We start our workshop with a brief introduction where I will the explain the steps of growing a WOW project. Now for the practical part: for each chairlift ride we pick one, and only one, simple question, discuss it on the lift, then ski or snowboard, meet at the base of a given lift, pick the next question and move on.  This way we will be able to combine „work“ and fun at the same time.  During lunch break we check our interim results.  By 4 PM we should have a concrete project proposal.
How good of a  skier / snowboarder do you have to be?  Intermediate and better skiing or riding skills are recommended.

HOW TO FIND THE PARTY AT THE MEETING LOCATION?

At the meeting location, I will post the following sign:

Chairlift to Innovation - Poster

How can you find me? – I will be wearing a black jacket and green ski pants.

Content:

Teams and teamwork are the heart and soul of every project. This is especially true for agile teams. It is not the individual performance or accomplishment that counts but that of the team. Just like in team sports the team succeeds and fails together. Interestingly Agilists propose self-organizing teams. But what does “self-organizing” mean? If teams are self-organizing why do so many teams and projects fail?

This lecture sheds light on self-organizing teams. It explains what distinguishes them from manager-led and self-governing teams. It then outlines the ingredients that self-organizing teams need in order to develop and prosper.

Self-organizing teams have an immense potential for achieving powerful results on a project. However, there is no guarantee that self-organizing teams will form and be able to sustain themselves. This is particularly the case in non-agile organizations. Under those circumstances it is important to know common pitfalls of self-organizing teams and learn to overcome them. The lecture will discuss difficulties in developing and nurturing self-organizing teams. And it will show what it takes to master these challenges. This is not an easy task. The returns, however, are multifold and worth the investment. Self-organizing teams can thus become a cornerstone of project success.

A corresponding whitepaper of this presentation is available, too.  Please click here.
